Job Description
A Construction Laborer (General Construction Worker) performs a wide range of physical tasks to support construction projects, ensuring work sites are safe, organized, and operating efficiently. They assist skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and masons while helping prepare, build, and maintain residential, commercial, and industrial structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare construction sites by clearing debris, setting up barriers, and organizing materials.
- Load, unload, transport, and store construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assist skilled tradespeople with various construction and maintenance tasks.
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and prepare foundations.
- Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and small construction equipment safely.
- Mix and pour concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials as directed.
- Assemble and dismantle scaffolding, temporary structures, and site fencing.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Follow construction plans, supervisor instructions, and project schedules.
- Comply with workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Report equipment issues, safety hazards, and project concerns to supervisors.
- Perform general site maintenance and cleanup at the end of each workday.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous construction or labor experience is an advantage but not always required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with construction tools and equipment is beneficial.
- Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn new construction techniques and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
- Relevant certifications (such as construction safety training, first aid, or equipment operation) are an advantage.
Work Environment:
Construction Laborers typically work on residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. The role involves standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting heavy objects, and working in outdoor environments under various weather conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety boots, gloves, and high-visibility clothing is required.
