  • Salary: Up to £36,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Join us as our new Social Media Executive in our Grown-ups social media team. This exciting fixed-term position, based in Media City, offers a fantastic opportunity to work on social media campaigns across platforms primarily, but not exclusively:


  • TikTok – CBeebies (parents)
  • Instagram – CBeebies (parents)
  • Facebook - CBeebies (parents)
  • Facebook - Bitesize Teach (Teachers)
  • X (Twitter) = Teach; Bitesize (parents)

As a Social Media Executive, you'll work in a dynamic, close-knit team to drive awareness and engagement in the CBeebies shows and Education campaigns we support, while staying ahead of industry trends, best practices, and leveraging your data-driven insights and expertise in spreadsheets for planning and reporting.

Main Responsibilities


The Social Media Executive delivers a coherent, consistent social media experience for audiences, working closely with other social and digital roles to ensure each campaign delivers on the agreed social strategy, maximises engaged reach with the campaigns’ target audiences, delivers content of high creative quality, and drives traffic around the BBC portfolio.

This role will be primarily working across our Grown-ups (parents and teachers) accounts, to engage an audience on social media using bespoke and commissioned social content to bring our programming and wider campaigns to new, underserved audiences and existing fans.

Are you the right candidate?


The ideal candidate will have a wealth of social media knowledge and know to engage a parent / carer audience on vertical platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

They will be someone who lives and breathes social media and has professional experience using Instagram and TikTok, keeping abreast of the latest trends, sounds and influencers.

They will be a content creator who can generate stand-out, social-first ideas that make our audience take action and engage.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can come up with unique ideas, shoot content and produce first class assets using software such as Adobe Premiere and PhotoShop, along with in-app editing skills.

They will be a great communicator who can work with stakeholders to provide clear briefs, feedback and results as well as a team player who wants to get stuck in, share knowledge and ideas and take on a wealth of exciting projects and campaigns. They will also be able to delegate to and brief in team co-ordinators where need be.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven project management ideally within a social media environment.
  • Evidence of having run social media accounts and / or campaigns, either from scratch or inherited.
  • Good Adobe CS video/image editing skills; attention to detail with good editorial judgment, accuracy, and sensitivity.
  • Able to critically evaluate ideas and information.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with good presentation skills.
  • Able to embrace change and make improvements to working practices.
  • Understanding of editorial and other compliance policies.
  • Knowledge of the broadcasting industry and a demonstrable interest in its output.
  • A good sense of editorial judgment and tone of voice.
  • Experience leading with in-house and third-party creative resources.
  • Experience leading collaboration across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience managing critical stakeholder relationships.

Additional job specific responsibilities and accountabilities


  • Support the Social Media Manager where required to help develop Children & Education’s strategic and creative approach to social media
  • Manage social campaign plans, acting as the day-to-day lead for those campaigns across all social platforms, working closely with education and campaigns teams.
  • Produce and brief digital assets (video, images, gifs etc) that can be used across social media platforms, using relevant multimedia software (such as Adobe CS).
  • Produce and brief engaging copy and community management that is optimised for social platforms and formats, in line with the campaign and each account’s tone of voice.
  • Shape campaign plans to review performance and use learnings to maximise engagement across a tween audience
  • Ensure all content is complied/signed off as required by Social Media Manager, editorial lead and other key stakeholders
  • Work with Moderation Services, Editorial Policy and other support teams to shape campaign creative and develop appropriate responses where needed.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Media Planning and Creative to align organic social, paid social and marketing campaigns
