With a healthy forward workload, Civil Engineering Contractors, George Leslie Ltd have an opportunity for a Safety Health Environmental & Wellbeing (SHEW) Advisor, with good construction experience, to join our existing SHEW team. Reporting to the SHEW Manager/Deputy Manager, the role is to provide SHEW support to operational management teams. The role will involve providing advice, guidance and checking compliance, with legal and best practice safety, health, environment and wellbeing standards.
Duties will include, however, not limited to:
· Undertaking regular inspections and audits in keeping with an agreed program on sites Scotland wide and reporting accordingly.
· Ensuring working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
· Investigating and reporting on incidents, dangerous occurrences, ill health and near misses.
· Providing advice, support, and assistance to the sites on all aspects of the Company’s Business Management Systems.
· Continually promoting the health and safety ethos and positive culture at all levels in the Company and with subcontractors.
· Contributing to, and developing, appropriate SHEW initiatives & training packages.
· Contributing to the development of company procedures and other aspects of the SHEW Management Systems.
· Assist the SHEW management team when liaising with Client representatives and meeting attendance.
The successful candidate will have:
· A minimum of 5 years civil engineering/construction industry experience
· NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
· Membership of professional body (e.g. IOSH)
· Experience with ISO 45001 and 14001 is essential
· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
· Motivation to work as part of a team
· Incident investigation experience is essential
· A passion to drive SHEW improvements, work together and be resourceful
· A driving license (the role will involve traveling to sites across Scotland).
· An environmental qualification and membership of IEMA (desirable)
· Water sector experience is advantageous
· Power sector experience is advantageous
The right candidate will be computer literate, have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to coach and mentor.
