Work Days: Monday to Sunday, Weekends, Holidays
Time of Day: Days, Afternoons, Nights
Shift: Various Rotating, 7.5 hour
Shift Start: 7:00, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 22:00, 23:00, 24:00 Hours are subject to change based on operational requirements.
This position may be scheduled at any of the following sites: Charlton Campus (Hamilton Downtown)

Job Role Overview

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Porter to efficiently transport patients, equipment, linens, and specimens within the hospital. Providing support to clinical staff and following established procedures and guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • At least six months of relevant experience in a hospital setting
  • Basic computer skills, including operating communication devices
  • Effective communication with patients and healthcare team members
  • Time management and task prioritization skills
  • Familiarity with Hospital Isolation Guidelines
  • Understanding of the 'Lift and Transfer' Program
  • Ability to work independently
  • Physically capable to meet job demands
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transport patients using appropriate means with care, including proper setup and safety measures
  • Assist nursing staff in lifting and caring for patients using correct body mechanics
  • Maintain knowledge of hospital Hydraulic Patient lifts
  • Handle transport of laboratory specimens accurately and timely
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of patient equipment and linens
  • Manage and track patient locations via computer system
  • Handle collection and distribution of linens to designated areas
  • Properly stock and maintain supplies and carts
  • Transfer deceased patients to morgue when necessary
  • Support other portering groups as needed
  • Respond to transport requests promptly and securely
  • Handle patients with special medical requirements cautiously
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WAGE RATE
$26.89 ... $28.06 ... $29.23 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
