Job Description


We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Librarian. This role revolves around curating, managing, and facilitating access to our vast collection of books, digital resources, and other materials. As a Librarian, you will play a pivotal role in assisting patrons, maintaining an efficient library system, and fostering a culture of reading, research, and information literacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Collection Management:
  • Acquire, organize, and categorize library materials including books, periodicals, audiovisual items, and digital resources.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and ensure the upkeep of all library resources.
  • Suggest new acquisitions based on user preferences and industry trends.
  • Library Services and Assistance:
  • Help library users find information and materials, both physical and digital, and provide guidance on using the catalog system.
  • Provide reference services and research support to assist users in accessing relevant information.
  • Teach users how to navigate library tools, databases, and online resources.
  • Technology and Digital Resources:
  • Curate and provide access to online databases, e-books, and digital resources.
  • Assist patrons in utilizing computers, printers, and other technological resources.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in digital library management and technology integration.
  • Library Organization and Maintenance:
  • Maintain a user-friendly and organized library space to create a conducive learning environment.
  • Ensure proper shelving of books and materials, and maintain the overall cleanliness of the library.
  • Library Programming and Events:
  • Organize and promote engaging library events like reading programs, book clubs, author visits, and workshops.
  • Develop activities to spark interest in reading, learning, and research among users.
  • Collaborate with educators to support academic initiatives and programs.
  • User Education and Training:
  • Conduct training sessions on library systems, online research tools, and academic databases.
  • Provide information literacy instruction to enhance users' research capabilities.
  • Create guides and tutorials to facilitate efficient library navigation.
  • Library Administration and Reporting:
  • Maintain library records, manage circulation data, and monitor overdue materials.
  • Generate reports on library usage, collection growth, and inventory for management.
  • Assist in budget allocation for library acquisitions and resources.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Work with fellow librarians, faculty, and staff to enhance library services and initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development activities and remain updated on library science, technology, and education.
  • Outreach and Community Engagement:
  • Promote the library's services through community outreach, newsletters, and online platforms.
  • Build partnerships with community members, schools, and institutions to expand library usage.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science (BLS/MLS) or a related field.
  • Professional librarian certification may be required (e.g., MLS from an ALA-accredited program).
  • Experience:
  • Prior experience in library work or management preferred.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS) and online databases is advantageous.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational and cataloging abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in library management software, digital catalogs, and online research tools.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Passion for reading, research, and education.
