Role: Support Assistant for Learners

Payment: £24,939 - £27,613 Per Year Pro Rata

Agreement: Full Time

Site: Sheffield

Hours: 37 Hours per week x 38 Weeks per year

About the Position

Support Assistants for Learners collaborate with students facing educational barriers due to disadvantages, learning hurdles, or disabilities. They assist with educational activities within or outside the learning spaces, working with small groups and individual learners. They closely cooperate with the lead teacher and Tutorial Mentors to ensure students are actively involved in learning, pushed to their full potential, achieve their objectives, and enjoy their time at the College.

Main Duties

  • Helping with the assessment, planning, organization, and monitoring of individual learning support needs and plans
  • Aiding in providing learning support in educational settings (e.g. classroom, Workshop, Learning Resource Centre).
  • Responsible for arranging, organizing, and prioritizing personal work within well-established procedures, able to set priorities, and plan ahead.
  • Responsive to student requests for equipment assistance, including IT hardware and software.
  • Works independently or as part of a team, taking independent initiatives.

Skills & Expertise

  • Good educational background up to Level 3, with at least Level 2 numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Prior experience or knowledge in a similar role, with students, or within the specific field may be necessary.
  • Ability to identify work priorities for self and colleagues.
  • Thorough understanding of learning support processes and practices, and a good grasp of how these connect with the wider College.
