The Ministry of Justice is committed to ensuring a just legal system that protects the rights of individuals in Saskatchewan, fosters safe communities, and provides legal and justice policy advice. We are currently seeking a dynamic, culturally aware individual to join the Court Services Division as a Judicial Officer at the Saskatoon Provincial Court of Saskatchewan.
As the Chief Court Official, you will be responsible for maintaining court protocols and upholding the dignity of the court during sessions. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and accuracy are essential for this role. Your duties will include documenting appearance details, managing official court records, operating recording equipment, administering oaths, and overseeing exhibits and witness lists.
Utilizing various software systems, you will prepare and explain court documents in compliance with court orders and regulations, providing guidance to clerical staff as needed.
Given the potentially tense nature of the environment, your ability to identify and address volatile situations appropriately is crucial. Upholding the integrity and confidentiality of the justice system is paramount, in line with your Oath of Office.
Ideal candidates will possess a related diploma/degree in fields like Human Justice, Police studies, or have relevant experience in a court/legal setting. Knowledge of the justice system, legal terminology, Acts, regulations, and court procedures is essential.
Physical tasks such as climbing ladders to retrieve files and lifting heavy boxes up to 20 kg will be part of the role. Additionally, eligibility for appointment as a Justice of the Peace and possession of a valid driver's license for travel requirements are necessary.
