Crown Counsel Assistant

We are seeking two diligent Judicial Assistants to provide vital support to our Case Readiness Unit at the Public Prosecutions Regina office. The ideal candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding of the role of Public Prosecutions in the criminal justice system, including adeptness with file and case management systems, as well as effective communication with stakeholders.

The successful applicants will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, self-motivation, and efficiency. Working both independently and collaboratively, they must thrive in high-pressure environments with time-sensitive tasks. Initiative, flexibility, and adherence to standard practices are imperative qualities for this role.

Under the guidance of a Senior Crown Prosecutor, the Judicial Assistants will engage in concise and professional communication with Prosecutors, defense counsel, law enforcement, and other justice system partners. Responsibilities include file review, obtaining missing investigative information, managing disclosure, coordinating court appearances, and other duties as assigned.

Applicants must possess a sound knowledge of criminal legal terminology, the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Familiarity with Prosecutions policies and relevant legislations, such as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, is essential. The ability to identify legal requirements to prove offenses, assess document sufficiency, and comply with prosecution obligations is crucial.

Education or experience in supporting the prosecution of criminal matters is preferred for the ideal candidate.
